On 12 July 2021, the FISC Subcommittee hosted a public hearing on “Green Taxation” to discuss with experts the planned review of the Energy Taxation Directive and the CBAM. The hearing focussed on how these proposal would contribute to the goals of the European Green Deal and on the potential of green taxation as a means of both funding and supporting Europe’s recovery after the pandemic.
Legislative files related to taxation are dealt with in the ECON committee, with the assistance of the FISC Subcommittee.
The Parliament’s position on the CBAM proposal was adopted on 22 June 2022 and negotiations with the Council on this file are ongoing. The works on the ETD proposal are still ongoing at Committee level.
