Question for written answer  E-001207/2023
to the Commission
Rule 138
Nicolae Ştefănuță (Verts/ALE)

In 2021, we proposed an idea for a pilot project relating to the carbon footprint of cultural events. This project focused on how to help the cultural sector implement the objectives of the circular economy, energy efficiency and reduced CO2emissions from shows and events. The idea was refused based on the argument that major elements of the proposed study aiming to evaluate the ecological footprint of a performing arts show would be incorporated into the framework of a study on ‘effective measures to “green” the Creative Europe Programme’. This study would be implemented as part of the cross-sectoral strand in Creative Europe’s Annual Work Programme. Given that two years have passed since these proposals, we would like to know whether the cultural sector has received clear guidelines and support from the European Union to help reduce its carbon footprint.

1.What are the key findings of the study proposed by the Commission?2.What solutions and financial support does it propose for the cultural sector?3.Is the Commission considering increasing funding opportunities for cultural projects that aim to be greener?
