Green transition
Parliament will adopt its position on eight legislative proposals that aim to deliver on the EU’s climate action ambitions on Wednesday.
The measures are part of the EU’s Fit for 55 package and seek to reduce the EU’s greenhouse gas emissions and energy dependence, while supporting businesses and people in the transition to a sustainable economy.
They cover changes in the EU Emission Trading System, introducing a new carbon levy on imports, emission standards for cars and vans, new goals for the land use and forestry sector, changes in national targets for emission reductions and setting up a fund to help those affected by energy and mobility poverty.
Ukraine
During a debate on Wednesday morning, MEPs will examine the outcome of the European Council meeting of 30-31 May, which focused on agreeing a partial EU ban of oil imports from Russia following its invasion of Ukraine.
Later on Wednesday morning, the speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament (the Verkhovna Rada), Ruslan Stefanchuk, will address MEPs.
On Tuesday afternoon, MEPs will pose questions to EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell about the impact of the war on countries outside the EU.

LUX Audience Award
The winner of the LUX Audience Award will be announced at a ceremony on Wednesday. The three films competing in the 2022 edition are Flee by Jonas Poher Rasmussen, Great Freedom by Sebastian Meise and Quo vadis, Aida? by Jasmila Žbanić. The award aims to support European cinema and inspire discussion on topical issues.
Follow-up to the Conference on the Future of Europe
MEPs are set to call for specific changes to the EU’s founding treaties in response to the proposals of the Conference on the Future of Europe on Thursday. Citizens’ recommendations from the conference include, among others, the abolition of unanimity voting in the Council in most areas and more EU competences in health and energy.
Irish prime minister in Parliament
Irish Taoiseach (prime minister) Micheál Martin will discuss the challenges facing the EU with MEPs on Wednesday.
