The transitional period of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) for imported goods commenced on 1 October for all EU countries. However, based on the enquiries received by consultancy firms and the feedback from the industries concerned, it is clear that a significant number of stakeholders (importers and customs agencies) are not even aware on a conceptual level of what measures and tasks need to be performed. Many were late in starting their preparations, which was partly due to a lack of reliable and accurate information from official sources on the practical steps necessary to comply with the reporting obligations from the beginning of this month.
1.What measures does the Commission intend to take to make the transition period smoother for the importers and customs agencies concerned?2.The companies concerned will certainly pass on part of the increased costs of the carbon tax and its related administration, which will be reflected in the prices of the products and services they supply. What measures does the Commission intend to take to prevent costs being passed on to consumers?
